The History, Classics, and Religion Graduate Students' Association is pleased to welcome our distinguished Keynote Speaker Dr. Henry Abramson and our Conference Roundtable Participants Dr. Jocelyn Hendrickson, Dr. Frances Pownall, and Dr. Shannon Stunden Bower.
Keynote Speaker and Distinguished Guest
Dr. Henry Abramson currently serves as a Dean at Touro University in Brooklyn, New York. Dr. Abramson has authored several books, including Torah from the Years of Wrath, 1939-1943: The Historical Context of the Aish Kodesh. His areas of interest include Jewish and Ukrainian history, modern Jewish history, and representations of Jews in art and caricature.
Classics Roundtable Participant
Dr. Frances Pownall is a Professor in the Department of History, Classics, and Religion. Dr. Pownall's research focuses upon Greek historiography of the late Classical and early Hellenistic periods and questions of power and authority, focusing particularly upon the ways in which autocratic rulers legitimized and justified their rule.
History Roundtable Participant
Dr. Stunden Bower is an Associate Professor in the Department of History, Classics, and Religion. Her research focuses on the Canadian Prairies, and addresses questions related to water management (with particular concern for the extremes of flood or drought) and government institutions (whether at national, provincial, or local scales).
Religion Roundtable Participant
Dr. Jocelyn Hendrickson is an Associate Professor in the Department of History, Classics, and Religion. Dr. Hendrickson's research focuses on Islamic legal history in medieval and early modern North Africa (the Maghrib) and al-Andalus (Islamic Iberia) as well as colonial Mauritania.
